Introduction

Edinburgh Council requests funding of £8.32M from the Scottish Executive for the development of the tram system from Edinburgh to Leith, work to begin in 2002 and completion in 2009. A truck depot at Constitution Street in Leith is proposed as the tram depot.
28/01/2004Edinburgh Trams
The Scottish Parliament publishes the bills for the first two lines of the tramway, allowing property to be purchased by the council. Balfour Beatty given the contract to build the £7.5M West Edinburgh Guided Busway.

Network Rail objects to plan to cross Haymarket station. This plan would have involved loss of the car park and not allowed station expansion. Further west it suggested expansion of Haymarket Depot would be impossible.

West Edinburgh Guided Busway between Stenhouse and Broomhouse out of use. Repairs required to concrete roadway.
