Banff Bridge: Looking north over Banff Bay from the hillside to the east of the town in the spring of 2012. The building is the old Banff Bridge station, last stop before the former branch terminus at Macduff, less than half a mile off to the right. Banff Bridge was closed by BR in October 1951 and is now a private property.

Finsbury Park: 700141, with a Thameslink service to Horsham, arriving at Finsbury Park on 15th May 2021. This service began in 2018 with the belated opening of the Canal Tunnels linking the ECML to the MML north of Kings Cross. Its a pity that Finsbury Park is the only suburban station on the ECML that Thameslink services through the Canal Tunnels stop at. One would have thought some of the other more important stations on the ECML, e.g. Potters Bar and Welwyn Garden City, would have warranted a Thameslink service to ease congestion caused by changing at Finsbury Park. There is no Thameslink service round the Hertford North Loop neither.

Renton: In the absence of any spare 14th century buildings in the Vale of Leven the disused 1970s station building at Renton serves as the King Robert the Bruce Heritage centre and home of the Strathleven Artizans (sic). For myself I'd fill those firebaskets with begonias. KRB would have approved.

Leicester Midland: The story of W H Smith is closely intertwined with railway history. This particular branch at Leicester inspired me to take a professional and commercial interest in the railway business. While travelling home from a job interview in the 1980s, I bought Alan Williams book Not the Age of the Train here; I havent looked back since. Meanwhile, the fashions in clothes and telephone boxes are a sobering reminder of how much has changed in just ten years!

Hunmanby: The 1847 station building at Hunmanby, photographed looking north east over the level crossing in April 2009. This is the point on the Yorkshire Coast route where the long single line running north from Bridlington becomes double once again (junction just off to the right) for the 3 mile section to Filey.
