Glasgow Queen Street High Level: In 1963, steam somewhat unexpectedly kept appearing on Queen Street banking duties. I seem to remember reading at the time that one reason for this was that, when NBL Type 2s were first tried out in 1962, residents in the North British Hotel complained that the diesels 'made too much noise at night'. Whatever the truth or otherwise of that recollection, Standard 2-6-4 tanks were seen quite frequently during 1963. This shot shows 80027 assisting the 3.45pm relief to Newcastle. The train engine was B1 61116 (see image [[78908]])
Blairadam Brick Works: View east of the overgrown Blairadam and Blairenbathie mineral line. The Blairadam brickworks was to the right, on the site of Blairadam Colliery No 1, served by sidings approached from the west and a loop added to the mineral line. The site of the brickworks has been landscaped.
Pickering: Pickering station, NYMR, in June 1982, long before the restoration of its overall roof. BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T 80135 is arriving with a service from Grosmont.
Gainsborough Central: Diversions via the Brigg line and Gainsborough Central in February 2024 as the line is shut between Scunthorpe and Doncaster and work is ongoing with the sliding bridge at Keadby. 66798 is seen at Gainsborough Central with the Scunthope to Eastleigh service.
Millport Pier: The puffer 'Saxon' in the harbour at Millport in 1964. She had an interesting history. Launched originally as the 'Dane' in 1903, she sank off Greenock in 1925. Bought as she was by Millport's Kerr family, she was raised and refurbished and, from 1926, gave forty further years of loyal service, bringing coal and other cargo to the island.
Carlisle: A rather colourful 37405, now operated by Harry Needle Railroad, about to depart Carlisle light engine under head code 0Z37 on 9th February 2024.
