Heswall: Flooding around the Welsh Borders. 230008 departs Heswall with the 1320hrs TfW service from Bidston to Wrexham on 16th October 2024. This was a day of unrelenting rain and this train was halted at Hawarden Bridge for over four hours. Its northbound counterpart was halted at Penyfford and I had to get a bus to Spital to rejoin the rail network. The rest of the days Borderlands Line services, usually a 45 minute frequency, were cancelled.

Wood Street: 710119, London Overground from Chingford to Liverpool Street, departing from the decidedly shabby Wood Street station, at 14.47 on Saturday, 5th October 2024. This station was opened by the GER in 1873, its original wooden platform canopies were replaced a century later (another savage act of legalised vandalism) in what the old BR regime described as "improvements".
