Lincoln Central: GBRf super power. 66760, 66772 and 69009 (in 'Western maroon' livery) on 6E86, the 0815hrs Middleton Towers to Monk Bretton conveying sand, passing Lincoln Central in the sunshine on 28th November 2024.
Warrington Arpley: This bridge over the River Mersey once carried the line through Lymm to Stockport, and remained busy after that time until Fiddlers Ferry power station closed. Now it just sees occasional movements between Arpley Yard and Liverpool, which reverse here. The footpath on the side of the rail bridge is a dead end.
New Mills Tunnel: 195120, on a Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly local service, has just passed New Mills South Junction and now runs through the town on 30th October 2024. Just beyond the overbridge is a viaduct over the River Sett [[89691]], followed immediately by New Mills Tunnel and shortly after that New Mills Central station.
New Mills South Junction: 1950s map extract showing lines through New Mills, although a present day map would only be missing the Hayfield branch, closed in 1970. At the bottom is New Mills Newtown on the Buxton line. Next the line from Northenden through long Disley Tunnel, freight only from 1969 but, with the 1986 Hazel Grove Chord, again used by express passenger services routing via Stockport. The northerly line, meeting the Hazel Grove route at New Mills South Junction, carries Hope Valley locals between Manchester and Sheffield, and others terminating at New Mills Central. Folkestone West: Footplate view of Stanier Black 5 4-6-0 no. 44871 (1945) at Folkestone West during a water stop, at 15.17 on Monday, 11th November 2024. I was walking past after taking some photos of the Armistice Day railtour when the driver tapped me on the shoulder and invited me on board, I didn't ask and I've no idea why he chose me. Getting into the locomotive at my age was one thing, it was quite another when I had to get down afterwards - backwards.
Buckie [GNSR]: The weather on 6th April 1968 was somewhat unseasonable along the Moray coast as the 12.45 SO service from Elgin arrived at its destination. I used the return working to visit Spey Bay which was even more windswept and bleak!
Dumfries Goods: The original station at Dumfries was built as a terminus for the line from Carlisle. When the line extended north a new station was built opposite the shed which was later replaced by the current station. The original site quickly became an industrial hive with various goods facilities built as seen in image [[77033]]. Part of the site is still used by ScotRail to stable 156s overnight and by Network Rail to stable track machines but the majority of the site has been taken over by commercial units.
Glenfinnan Viaduct: Network Rail is set to renew over five kilometres of lineside fencing near the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct in a project worth £500,000.
Lednock Bridge: The start of another walk begins with a view of the abutment of a bridge in Comrie which carried the Comrie to Balquhidder line over the River Lednock.
Ramsbottom: The 125 group's 43159 heads the 12:53 Bury to Rawtenstall, seen leaving Ramsbottom during the East Lancashire Railway's DMU (AND 125) Gala on 9th November 2024.
