New Mills Central: There are plenty of Station Roads in the UK, but not many will have views like that in New Mills. Central station is some way from and below the town centre but this perhaps makes up for that. In this October 2024 view the line to Sheffield can be seen, and below that the River Goyt and part of the Millennium Walkway.

Appleby East: The old rails at Appleby Level Crossing can still be seen poking through the tarmac, despite the county council's best efforts to cover them over. The crossing is directly north of Appleby East station on the old Eden Valley Railway between Penrith and Kirkby Stephen, which was once part a cross-country route from the North-East to Workington. It closed to passengers in 1962 but the line from Appleby to Warcop remained open to serve the army base at Warcop until 1989.

Yorkhill Quay: In September 1977, her final month of service, TS ‘Queen Mary’ passes Yorkhill on her way downriver from Bridge Wharf. The ‘II’ in her previous ‘Queen Mary II’ name, added as a courtesy to Cunard in 1935 before their celebrated RMS ‘Queen Mary’ entered service, was dropped at the start of the 1976 season, following the removal of the retired Cunarder from Lloyd’s Register.

Elderslie Junction: Still a slight mist as Black 5 4-6-0 No 44802 pulls away from Elderslie on an early morning train from Kilmarnock to Glasgow St Enoch on 5 April 1965

Firhill Timber Basin: Looking across the canal to the southern entrance to Firhill Basin. In the foreground is a wartime lock, provided to reduce the risk of flooding should the canal be breached by bombing. On the left is the home of Partick Thistle Football Club. 'Firhill for Thrills'...

Comrie Viaduct: Looking away from the Comrie Viaduct this view looks south west. The line ran South West out of Comrie before swinging round near House of Ross to continue North West, cross over the River Earn and continue across fields towards Dalchonzie Platform.

Saltburn: At Saltburn, 185108 awaits its next turn of duty to Manchester Victoria on 19 November 2024. Unsurprisingly, the adjacent supermarket and its car park occupy platform and siding space released by the remodelling of the station in 1974.
