Stalybridge: Manchester Victoria to Stalybridge TPE services go electric. Two different hybrids at Stalybridge on 5th November 2024. TPE 802209 pulls away from Stalybridge, heading for Huddersfield and Newcastle on 5th November 2024. In the bay platform, Flex unit 769450 waits to return to Southport. The newly electrified line between here and Victoria has been energised, and the Southport service departed 'pan-up', but the TPE train from Lime Street changed to diesel power before departing Manchester Victoria. However, TPE 802s began electric running between Victoria and here on 2nd December - see recent news item.

Gunnislake: Gunnislake station in either March or April 1968. Until November 1966, the line had continued to Callington but was cut back to Gunnislake, which of course remains open today. The station itself was resited in 1994, to allow a low bridge to be removed, although by that time the line had become a single track basic railway.

Scottish Deer Centre: The Scottish Deer Centre near Cupar opened a new miniature railway in October 2024. Following a competition for local children, the railway has been named 'The Haggis Expressway'. This very presentable representation of a Type 2, in West Coast Railways maroon livery, used to operate on Kerr's Miniature Railway at Arbroath but is now the motive power here. Woodley [MSLR]: 150131 calls at Woodley with a Rose Hill (Marple) to Piccadilly service on 30th October 2024. The Sprinter has just crossed the junction for the short freight branch to the still active Bredbury Stone and Waste terminals. This was once a through route to Stockport Tiviot Dale and beyond but the rest of the line closed after the Woodhead freights ceased in 1981.

Appleby East: Looking south from Appleby Level Crossing towards Warcop on the 25th November 2024, you can see how much the vegetation has taken over in recent years. The old station building is still in situ but now part of a scrap metal yard. Photo [[21207]] shows this spot in 2007, but the level crossing gates are long gone.
