Cardross: An interior view of an Electric MU on the Glasgow-Helensburgh service mid '60s. Exact location unknown.
Clifton and Lowther: Transpennine Express 397002 crossing the M6 and passing under the A6 on approach to Clifton, south of Penrith, whilst working 1M87 1334 Carlisle to Manchester Airport on the 25th January 2025. A reduced timetable in the aftermath of Storm Eowyn saw very few trains running on the usually busy WCML. Network Rail have recently announced plans to completely replace the bridge over the M6 in January 2026 which will see the line closed for two weeks.
Portrack Viaduct: The viaduct over the Nith at Portrack was replaced around Christmas 2003 on a slightly different alignment with a part of the earlier trackbed visible to the left of this shot from June 2006. The train is 6M32, the 09.44 Greenburn - Ratcliffe PS and peeping out from the undergrowth is a Ruston shunter on a section of private track in the grounds of Portrack House.
Ferryhill Shed [2nd]: Class J37 64605 at Ferryhill MPD in ex works condition, 1962.
Aller Junction: Fragonset locos 31602 and 31601 at Aller Junction, as it was, with a Paignton to Crewe return Charter on 14th May 2000. This ran in conjuction with a Rail event at Newton Abbot. The point where the picure was taken, a farm land accommodation bridge, was later demolished when the road from Newton Abbot towards Kingskerswell was improved and made into a dual carriageway, bypassing the town.
Woodacre Crossing: 88004 'Pandora' and 88009 'Diana' double-head the Daventry to Mossend Tesco on 4th January 2025. The fully loaded service is seen approaching Woodacre.
Newcastle Central: Looking south from platform 4 at Newcastle, at 14.01 on Tuesday, 17th December 2024 while waiting to go home on the 14.26 LNER service to King's Cross, having travelled up two days earlier on the 08.52 Lumo service for the Ashington line reopening and meeting my friend Robert, editor of "Today's Railways" magazine.
Crieff [2nd]: This was the approach to the station building on the westbound platform at Crieff [2nd] station. The view is looking east from King Street and the station was on the left, with the former goods yard off to the right. The station site is now a Scottish Ambulance Service depot and car park for Crieff Cottage Hospital. Little remains of the station apart from two road ramps down from King Street and the blocked off bridge which carried King Street over the line.
Micheldever: Micheldever station in June 2004 with a London bound EMU making a call. When the Bournemouth line was electrified in 1967 an island platform was created, by widening the Winchester bound platform, and the former up platform adjacent to the station building was taken out of use. The large goods yard was used by the RAF as a fuel and oil depot but this ceased circa 1995 although it is still available for stock storage as far as I understand.
