Crewe: Northern Class 323 EMs are the norm on the long Platform 1 at Crewe, shuttling in and out on services to Piccadilly via Stockport or the Styal Loop and Airport. However, during congested periods other trains are diverted in and just before 323231 called an 11-coach Pendolino had used the platform on its way to Euston.

Appleby: Freightliner 66620 making good time through Appleby, on Saturday 8th February 2025, with 6E97 1100hrs New Biggin British Gypsum to Hunslet Yard. The last time a Gypsum train rattled through Appleby was October 2024 before the service was transferred from DB Cargo to Freightliner. They route the train via the Tyne Valley line to Kingmoor Yard, where the loco has to run round before heading back south down the S&C to the gypsum works at New Biggin. This particular working was to allow the rake of GBRF branded wagons to be serviced.

The line was singled after the 1967 closure of the Strathmore route but remained open to serve Brechin until 1981.

Craigendoran: Craigendoran boasted a terminal platform, which served the piers but ceased to be used after these were closed in September 1972. This shot was taken in its last year, and at that time there were still two platforms in use on the Helensburgh line although the island platform on the West Highland line had been removed after withdrawal of local trains to Arrochar in May 1965.
