Wanstead: The severely plain street level building to Wanstead station, east London, opened on 14th December 1947 as part of the eastern extension of the LU Central Line from Liverpool Street, seen here at 14.10 on Tuesday, 14th January 2025. Designed by Dr. Charles Holden (1875-1960), it is one of the lesser examples of this acclaimed architect's works.
Musselburgh [2nd]: On 27th August 1966 the Railway Society of Scotland organised the 'J36 Rail Tour' which started at Corstorphine and visited various lines and connections in the Edinburgh area. Motive power was 65345 with 4 Mk 1s and it was a most enjoyable outing. Among the places visited was Musselburgh and in this shot the train is just about to enter the station which had closed in 1964. The lines to the left ( Boglehole Siding ) served the coal depot and remained in use until 09/1971 when the branch closed completely.

Brinnington Tunnel: Two informative signs, displayed by the trail on the old Woodley to Cheadle Junction line. That on the left is near the west portal of Brinnington tunnel and shows a freight emerging from the east portal. That on the right is further down the trail near the site of the former Stockport Portwood stone terminal.
Lostwithiel: 37181 comes off the Fowey Branch, on 22nd March 1983, with empty clay hoods. 37181, now numbered 37610, is still in traffic with Colas Rail and used on test trains. At this time it was a Plymouth Laira loco, outbased at St Blazey for china clay work.
Penrith: Decided to treat myself to a Scotrail 50% sale to have a wee jolly from Larkhall to Penrith via Glasgow and back. 2nd class outward and 1st class return on 13th February 2025. Lovely day out and great train crew. This is the interior of the 1st Class section of the TPE Class 397 EMU.
Abercairny: Abercairny station seen in 2023 in a view looking east. The trees have grown to almost obscure the view since my photograph of 1995. The former station was for sale in 2023. Hopefully the heritage of the site will continue to be observed.
Ais Gill Summit: LMS liveried Black Five 4767 approaches the summit at Ais Gill, heading south with a ‘Cumbrian Mountain Express’ on a wintry day in 1981.
