Shortlands: 35028 'Clan Line', with the Victoria to Dover 'Belmont Pullman', passing Shortlands on its way to Dover, via Swanley and the Medway, on 6th March 2025.
Irlam and Cadishead [1st]: This bridge abutment, immediately east of Irlam station, carried the Warrington to Manchester CLC route from 1873 to 1893 when the present line over the arched bridge behind was opened. This was at a higher level as part of the crossing of the Manchester Ship Canal to the east of here. Superb murals, commemorating Irlam's rich railway history, are displayed on the brickwork and a levelled area of the trackbed has been incorporated into a small linear park with, of all things, a 'Hobbit House'. The girder bridge beyond the arch once carried an industrial line.
Wooler: A shot, thought to date from 1970, of Wooler station looking south. Passenger services ended in 1930 but goods traffic continued to be handled until 1965, served from the Coldstream end of the line. By 1970 the platforms had been infilled, and a fair section of the wooden porch which graced the front of the building had been removed, but otherwise it was in fair order and still remained so as a private residence on my last visit some years ago. I think my first car, an Austin Mini, has managed to get into the photograph.
West Brompton: Colorful 378205, London Overground, Clapham Junction to Stratford arriving at West Brompton, an interchange with the London Underground District Line Wimbledon branch, out of view on left, at 12.39 on Monday, 17th February 2025. This station opened in 1999 on the site of the one closed in 1940.
Paignton: 1015 at Paignton with the 1A55 1555 Paignton to Paddington service. 1015 is the only main line certificated Western at this time..
Tonbridge: The frontage of Tonbridge Wells station on 6th March 2025. Plenty of taxis available!
Moss-side Level Crossing: View north of the former level crossing at Moss-side, south west of Methven. The level crossing keeper's cottage still stands here, as a private house. A footpath runs along the trackbed going off to the left, the former line to Crieff. The line off to the right, to the nearby Methven Junction and on to Perth, has been ploughed out.
Liverpool Lime Street: TPE's 'Unity' liveried 802213, ready to leave Lime Street with a service for Newcastle on 5th February 2025. There is a considerable variety of stock at Lime Street with frequent services provided by Avanti, Northern, TPE, London Northwestern and Transport for Wales (not forgetting Merseyrail on the Low Level platform!).
