Fraserburgh Shed: Fraserburgh Shed, still apparently in commercial use in 2025. The open area to the left was where the turntable was sited. The shed stood close by the passenger station but closed when the line was dieselised. However, it has outlasted all other railway infrastructure in the town as where the station was sited is now a public road and commercial premises. See image [[83729]] of the shed, station and goods yard in 1965.
Buxton: Continuing a very cautious approach down the 1:66 gradient from Dove Holes, DBC 66025 passes Buxton’s outer home signal with a train of empties from Ashburys to Dowlow on the Hindlow Branch. In the foreground are the Up Relief Sidings, which are used by all other branch freights allowing the loco to run round and access the wider network via the freight only Peak Forest route. This daily train perhaps provides a welcome change for signallers when offering the train to the next block post on the route, tapping out a 5 on the block instrument instead of the usual 3-1 for passenger trains.
Fairlie Pier: My Holiday Runabout ticket for August 1965, allowing train travel from Glasgow to Fairlie Pier or the many other Firth of Clyde stations, and steamer trips with Caledonian Steam Packet vessels (but not those of David MacBrayne).
London Euston: Electric locos at the 'new' London Euston on 25 September 1966, featuring two locos in 'electric blue', the nearer being AL6 No E3124.
Tom-na-Faire Depot: The start of the great day on which steam returned to the West Highland line after an absence of 21 years. This shot of Black 5 5407 at Tom-na-Faire depot was taken shortly after the sun came up on Sunday 27th May 1984, as the locomotive was being prepared for the first of two return trips to Mallaig made that day.
Carlisle: Pigeon nesting under the canopy at the south end of Carlisle's platform 3, keeping an eye on the comings and goings while waiting for the eggs to hatch.
Kilknockie Viaduct: This small lineside hut stands just east of Kilknockie Viaduct, on the south side of the line and partly down the slope of the approach embankment. The farm track seen here was created after the line closed, giving access to the trackbed from near Viaduct Cottage.
Inverkeithing: 158724 and 158721 arrive in Inverkeithing with the 15.25 from Perth to Edinburgh. Services from Edinburgh to Fife had been disrupted by a points failure on 29 May 2025.
