Tynemouth: First 555 impressions: I let three conventional Metro units go by, anticipating a Class 555 known to be operating. Reward came with the arrival of 555021 at Tynemouth. As we were heading to Cullercoats and this train was for St James we took the opportunity of a longer first 555 ride with a return trip to the terminus. First impressions: much smoother ride and better acceleration as expected, tempered by the loss of the front window seats. Upside of this is a spacious cab, which must be welcomed by drivers. Jury still out on use of longitudinal seating throughout the 5-car unit.
Arbroath: Arbroath North finally getting a new set of steps. I think that has been ongoing for over a year, with scaffolding being used to access the box.
Burntisland: 170406 passes the 1st Burntisland station, with the 12.39 from Dundee to Edinburgh on 18th June 2025.
Mintlaw: Looking towards Maud Junction, through the site of Mintlaw station, on 15th April 2025. The Peterhead branch passed very close to the centre of Mintlaw, but the station for some reason was sited nearly a mile to the west of that centre. [Probably in order to also serve Old Deer, Aden House and Pitfour House - the station was formerly known as Old Deer and Mintlaw.] The platforms are still in place but very overgrown. See image [[79401]] from 1st May 1965, the last day of passenger services here.
Uffington: On 17th June 2025 all the freights passing Uffington seemed to be running late. This was Freightliner 66414, westbound at 1151hrs with 6V53, the Appleford (Didcot) Fhh to East Usk Yard Fhh stone train.
Arisaig: Black 5 5407 leaves Arisaig with the ‘West Highlander’ in the summer of 1984, during the first season of ‘preserved’ steam operation over the Mallaig extension. A day of notably fine weather, with the mountains of the island of Rum, or Rhum as it then was, in clear view.
Edinchip Viaduct [C and O]: This is one of the two Edinchip Viaducts. This one, a single arch, carried the Callander and Oban Railway and crossed over the Kendrum Burn west of Edinchip House. This is the east side of the bridge.
Canonbury: 66224 heads the Bow to Heck empties through Canonbury on 12th June 2025. It will then head down the East Coast main line via the Hertford Loop.
