West Hampstead [Met]: LU S8 stock, Metropolitan Line to Uxbridge running fast from Finchley Road to Wembley Park, passing the LU Jubilee Line station at West Hampstead, at 11.51 on Saturday, 22nd March 2025. On the far right are the non-electrified Chiltern Line tracks to and from Marylebone.
Cults Lime Works: Looking towards the Cults Lime Works, in the distance, in April 2025. The trackbed of the industrial railway that served it curves along the hillside approaching the horseshoe curve from where it doubled back and dropped down the hill towards the main line connection near Springfield. The line operated from 1876 to 1947.
Wigan Central: A station I would like to have visited when open was Wigan Central, if for no other reason than to see the interior of the main building. My one and only visit was in the early 1970s but even in dereliction it still looked impressive. Passenger services ended in November 1964 and total closure came in April 1965 followed by demolition reported as taking place in 1973. In addition to the platform visible there was apparently an island platform removed in the 1930s.
West Hampstead [Met]: LU S8 stock, Metropolitan Line to Uxbridge running fast between Finchley Road and Wembley Park, heading away from the camera as it passes the LU Jubilee Line station at West Hampstead, at 11.51 on Saturday, 22nd March 2025. To the left of the train are the non-electrified Chiltern Line tracks to and from Marylebone.
Mexborough: A Chiltern Railway based Class 165 unit, no. 165006, is an unusual visitor to Mexborough heading to Doncaster Works from Banbury. Running as 5Q23, the 0843 Banbury to Doncaster on 25th June 2025.
Arnage: Now part of a private garden, but visible from the public greenway that runs through Arnage station, this is the old goods yard where the loading dock can be seen and this old hut from railway days.
Edinchip Viaduct [C and O]: This is a (trackless) trackside view of the bridge carrying the Callander and Oban Railway near Edinchip House. The view looks SSW.
Magdalen Green: With Wormit and the northern approaches of the Tay Bridge in the background the 10.44 Aberdeen - Glasgow Queen Street on 27th May 2025, worked by 43003 and 43141, approaches the site of Magdalen Green station, closed in 1956.
