Seaton Delaval: The young gentleman studying his phone appears unconcerned by the arrival of Ashington bound 158855 at Seaton Delaval but it transpired that he was waiting for the train to Newcastle which was due to arrive some 10 minutes later. The two trains were scheduled to pass at Newsham which is on the double track section of the route.
Finchley Road (Met): Finchley Road, LU Metropolitan and Jubilee Lines, looking towards central London, at 11.44 on Saturday, 22nd March 2025. The station was opened by the Metropolitan Railway on 30th June 1879 with the extension from Swiss Cottage to Willesden Green and was rebuilt in 1939 for when Bakerloo Line trains took over the local services to Stanmore, starting on 20th November that year. These were then transferred to the LU Jubilee Line on 1st May 1979. Metropolitan Line trains use the outer platforms and Jubilee Line trains the centre, allowing convenient cross-platform interchange.
Broadley: A very fine carved representation of a WD 2-8-0 on a bench at Broadley station, part of the Healey Dell nature trail on the old Bacup to Rochdale line. The WDs were amongst the last locos to haul goods trains on the line before final closure in 1967.
Larbert: A scan of a shot taken on an Instamatic camera at Larbert in April 1966. 73154 departs from a station stop with an unrecorded northbound working.
Burntisland East Junction: LNER Azuma 800109 runs through Burntisland with the 07.08 from Leeds to Aberdeen, passing the overgrown and disconnected Docks branch. Seen from Lammerlaws Bridge.
Ludlow: The 14.59 to Holyhead leans to the curve as it enters Ludlow station on 13th April 2025. The young family on the right had unexpectedly just offered me their last ice cream, which was very sweet of them. Things then got worse, as a chap who appeared to be 'high' enough to catch a ride on a passing aeroplane challenged me to a fight. I ignored this challenge and left. The phrase 'county lines' springs to mind.
Edinchip Accommodation Bridge: Having pushed through some undergrowth, this is a view along the rather fancy accommodation bridge at Edinchip.
Gourock Pier: It is 1 May 1967, and the last Scottish Region steam train had departed from Gourock on the previous day. Steam, however, was still present at Gourock in the shape of TS 'Duchess of Hamilton' seen here at Gourock Pier.
