Description
This junction was south of Aberdeen Guild Street. From this junction the Denburn Valley Line ran through Aberdeen Joint (today's Aberdeen station) leaving the original Aberdeen Guild Street terminus on a short branch.
The junction opened as Denburn South Junction in 1867 with the Denburn Valley line. Denburn Junction was within Aberdeen Joint, 16 chains to the north. (Possibly in very early days the name Denburn Junction applied to Denburn South Junction.)
In 1896 the signal box was replaced, taking over the work of both the first Denburn South Junction box and Clayhills Sidings box. There was increasing long distance and suburban traffic.
In 1914 both Aberdeen Joint and Aberdeen Guild Street Goods were substantially rebuilt and the line south widened considerably from the double track it had been.
The box was replaced with Aberdeen South Signal Box in 1947.
The box was replaced by the Aberdeen Power Box in 1981.
