This was a two platform station. The main station building was on the northbound (town side) building with a waiting room on the southbound platform.
The goods yard was on the west side, approached from the north. It was north of the platform. A long pair of sidings were on the east side, reached by reversal from the station.
The signal box was replaced in 1942, the new brick built box being north of the northbound platform (the original was at the north end of the platform). The older one was topped with a finial.
The goods yard and sidings were converted into passing loops on either side of the line. The box took over Lamington box in 1972. It in turn was closed in 1973, replaced by the Motherwell Signalling Centre.
The passing loops remain in use today but nothing remains of the station except nearby railway cottages and the former station forecourt. A siding here is in permanent way use.
