This pier was served by steamers from Balloch Pier.
When the Callander and Oban Railway opened to Tyndrum [1st] in 1873 a station opened at Crianlarich [CandO]. Interconnecting coaches were organised such as one which ran down Glen Falloch to Ardlui Pier and Arrochar Pier to pick up steamer traffic.
The pier was later used in the construction of the West Highland Railway. Ardlui station is just to the west.
