Name and dates

Island I Vow Castle

Description

This ruined castle is located on Island I Vow, the furthest north island in Loch Lomond. The small island is heavily wooded. It was a MacFarlane castle abandoned in favour of Arrochar following the destruction of the castle by Cromwell's troops. A house was built here and was seen to be ruined by William Wordsworth on visiting the island in 1814. The island can be glimpsed from the West Highland Railway, to the west, through the trees.
