This was factory opened 1938/1939 by Blackburn Aircraft Limited, named for Robert Blackburn, who joined with Maurice Denny, of the Leven Shipbuilding Yard, to establish the works. The factory was built on 'Barge Park' which had already been in use as part of the nearby shipyard site around the Great War.
During the Second World War 250 Shorts Sunderland Flying Boats were built here.
Following the war prefabricated houses were built here, some were used at Oakley as accommodation for Comrie Colliery workers for example.
The factory closed in 1961 and much of it remained standing, in distillery use. It has since been almost entirely demolished and is being redeveloped as housing.
