This works was built by William Nicoll of Dundee. It was located just east of Lindisfarne Castle on Holy Island.
The lime works received limestone from Nessend Quarry (at the north end of the island) by wagonway (Holy Island Tramway) and coal brought in by sea from Scotland via Castle Point Jetties.
The product, lime, was transported to Dundee (also via the jetties).
