Description

This was the original locomotive shed in Crieff, built for the Crieff Junction Railway. It was by the Duchlage Road level crossing where the line entered the station Crieff [1st] from the south east. It was a single road brick built shed.

Access to the shed was via the goods yard. This was laid out to the south west of the passenger station and was approached via a headshunt, the sidings splaying out towards Duchlage Road. The northernmost of these served the locomotive shed from the north west.

With the opening of the Crieff and Methven Junction Railway in 1866 that company opened a second shed, Crieff Shed [2nd], on the north side of its line and east of the Duchlage Road level crossing.

In 1893 the goods yard at Crieff was rebuilt at the time when the line was extended west to Comrie. The original passenger station became a goods yard and, although altered, remained in a similar state. The original goods yard was rebuilt, with the lines separating at the south east end instead. The Duchlage Road was lifted up onto a road bridge over the lines and approach to the new Crieff [2nd] station. The original shed was demolished during the alterations. Its site today is a small industrial unit.
