Name and dates

Dalry Junction Turntable (1850-1859)

Opened on the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway.

Description

This turntable was on the east side of Dalry Junction, just at the north end of Dalry Junction [Station] and approached from the south, off the Kilmarnock route.

At some point after closure of Dalry Junction [Station] a turntable was installed on the west side of Dalry Junction, approached form the north.

The purpose of both of these turntables was perhaps to allow locomotives from trains splitting or combining here to be turned.
