Name and dates

Gleniffer Depot (1899-1959)

Opened on the Barrhead Branch (Glasgow and South Western Railway).

Description

This depot was the terminus of a short extension of the line south from Potterhill. The depot served the nearby Glenfield Scouring Works and nearby area. The Mullstane Craig Quarry was also served.

The portion of the line between Potterhill and Thornly Park Junction became the first part of an extension on to Barrhead Central.

The depot consisted of a few sidings, approached from the east.

After 1905 it competed with a siding from the never opened nearby Glenfield station.

Coal traffic continued to the end in 1959.

The site is now a small housing estate, Glenfield Grange.
