Name and dates

Hairmyres (1868-)

Station code: HMY National Rail ScotRail
Where: South Lanarkshire, Scotland
Opened on the Busby Railway.
Open on the East Kilbride Line.

Description

This is a single platform station. The platform is on the south side of a single line with a large car park to the south. The station building survived into the 1990s, but is now gone. The platform has been extended at its west end. East of the station is Hairmyres Loop.

For much of its existence this was a very rural location until East Kilbride expanded west to engulf it.

The loop is the reinstatement of an earlier loop which had a siding running west to the station. The Radio Times print works opened to the north of the station, served by new sidings.

The loop and sidings were taken out in the 1970s.
