Opened on the Great North of Scotland Railway.
Description
This was a two platform station. The westbound platform and building remain intact. The station is at the west end of a long loop from Insch station.
There is a goods yard, largely now used for permanent way trains, on the south side of the line, accessed from the west.
Although the line was initially single track, this station had a loop and two platforms.
East and west boxes opened in 1888.
The line was doubled from Insch (to the east) to Huntly (to the north) in 1896. The east box closed, no longer necessary for the east end of the loop. The west box, renamed simply 'Kennethmont', remained to control the section and access to the goods yard.
The station closed to passengers in 1968.
In 1970 the line west to Huntly was singled, but the railway east to Insch remained double.
Ardmore Distillery is to the south. The station predated the distillery.
The station building, which was semi-derelict, has been restored (2018?) and is now a house.
Kennethmont Summit, the highest point on the former Great North of Scotland Railway, is to the east.
