Name and dates

Newsham (1850-1964)

Opened on the Bedlington Private Railway.
Opened on the Blyth Extension (Seghill Railway).

Description

This was a three platform junction station, with two platforms on the line from Newcastle northwards to Bedlington (opened 1850) and one, on the east side, for the Blyth branch (1846).

Both the lines to Bedlington and Blyth [2nd] closed in 1964. The Blyth route closed in 1968, although it remained open as far as Isabella Pit Junction as an approach to Bates Staithes until recent years.

The Newcastle - Bedlington route remains open to freight. The junction between the lines, Newsham Junction, was just to the south.

Sources for the date of opening do not agree. Possibly 1850, 1851 or 1853.
