This was the works of James AB McKinnell. The works had no railway connection, but did have an internal tramway.
According to Maxwell's Guide to the Stewartry of Kirkcudbright, the works made 'all kinds of agricultural implements, so much used now-a-days in the three adjacent counties ; also buildersâ?? and joinersâ?? castings, waggon wheels, cranes, jennies, railway water-tanks, signals, and girders, water-wheels of any size, steam-engines of every kind, gas-holders and apparatus, &c.'
The works made who built two vertical boilered locomotives. One went to Gatelawbridge Quarry, Thornhill, and the other to the Kelhead Lime Works.
