This was the junction for Dumfries Goods. It was located on the slow lines between Pleasance Junction (to the west) and Noblehill Junction (east). Approach was from the east.
To the west the slow lines formed the Up reception siding and Down departure siding. To the east were the Up departure siding, headshunt (approached from the goods yard), Down reception, and Eastfield siding.
A signal box, dating from 1876, was on th south side of the junction. This became Dumfries No 3 box when the Dumfries boxes were numbered.
The box closed in 1952, during the resignalling which ultimately led to Dumfries Station box in 1957 and Dumfries South at Noblehill Junction in 1955. A ground frame replaced the box.
A minimal version of the goods yard and junction remain today.
