Opened on the Dumfries, Lochmaben and Lockerbie Railway. This goods station was to east of Dumfries station. It was a goods station only approached from Dumfries Goods Junction on the Dumfries, Lochmaben and Lockerbie Railway, rather than the Glasgow, Dumfries and Carlisle Railway main line which remains open.
Caledonian Railway passenger services terminated in the bay platform at north of Dumfries.
This goods station had a large yard. To the west was a tall three storey goods warehouse (rail served). By this was a single storey two road goods shed. Going east were loading banks and cattle pens. In the north of the site, and on the east side, was the single road Dumfries St Mary's Shed [CR] , which was closed at the Grouping in 1923. The layout was approached from the north.
A further warehouse and a rail served abattoir were later built to the east of the goods yard.
After closure the goods warehouse and goods shed found other uses. The goods warehouse has since been demolished but the goods shed remains standing in the industrial estate which was setup in the former goods yard area.
