Location type

Name and dates

Pather Signal Box (-1953)

Opened on the Wishaw and Coltness Railway.

Description

This signal box was on the south side of the line between Wishaw South station (west) and Overtown [1st] station (east).

It controlled access to the Pather Iron and Steel works, which was to the south on a branch which was accessed from the west and continued south to Overton Colliery and Cambusnethan Colliery. This was west of the box.

Opposite the box, across the line, was a reversing spur accessed from the east which was an interchange with the Coltness Iron Works Railway. Pather Colliery was just to the north on the iron works line.

The box was replaced in 1908 when the Pather Iron and Steel works was entirely rebuilt.

The box closed in 1953.

The main line remains open as a double track electrified railway.
