This junction was immediately east of Pollokshields station (later Shields Road [GPJ]). It was the west end of a double track loop of the Glasgow and Paisley Joint Railway which began at Cook Street Junction (Cook Street Branch Junction) to the east. The loop served the Eglinton Street Goods which was at the east end of the loop. Access to the goods yard, coming from the west, was via the loop. Pollokshields Junction was controlled by Pollokshields Signal Box.
Between the loop and the main line were dead end sidings, headshunts and storage sidings for the goods yard. To the south of the loop, and between it and the City of Glasgow Union Railway, was a carriage shed which was served from the east.
The junction was later taken out. The two groups of sidings were merged and electrified to provide carriage sidings for Glasgow Central known as Smithy Lye Carriage Sidings. The western end of the loop was re-laid to make a connection to the City of Glasgow Union Railway just east of the former Shields Road [CGU] station, the loop still allowing access to the goods yard, which became Salkeld Street Parcels Depot, from the west.
