This is one of several stations re-opened in 1993 when the line between Cowlairs West Junction and Maryhill, retained (without any stations) for West Highland Railway and goods traffic, was re-opened to passengers. The original station Possilpark was on the west side of Balmore Road.

The site of the competing former Possil station is to the north.

The line between Glasgow Queen Street High Level and Anniesland is supported and promoted by the Glasgow North Community Rail Partnership .
