Raith Colliery Sidings (1884-1934)

Opened on the Dunfermline Branch (Edinburgh and Northern Railway).

Description

These sidings were south of Cowdenbeath [1st] station and north of Cowdenbeath South Junction. There were colliery exchange sidings and junctions for mineral lines.

A mineral line ran north east to the Little Raith Colliery. This served Raith Colliery Dora Pit, Raith Colliery Lady Pit, Raith Colliery Gordon Pit and Raith Colliery Whiskey Neuk Pit.

Another mineral line ran west to the Hill of Beath Colliery Engine Pit and Hill of Beath Colliery West Pit.

Both branches had exchange sidings by their junction.

Raith Colliery Sidings signal box opened here in 1884, replaced in 1915. This was on the west side of the main line, with the exchange sidings for the Hill of Beath mineral line to its west.

The Hill of Beath line closed first, followed by the Raith line. The box closed in 1934.
