These sidings were on the west side of the line south of Cowdenbeath station and north of Cowdenbeath South Junction on the Kelty to Cowdenbeath (North British Railway). this line had opened in 1890 as part of the improvements associated with the opening of the Forth Bridge. The junction gave access to Mossbeath Colliery from the south. The colliery was to the west.
A signal box was provided in 1897 on the east side of the line just north of the junction. Mossbeath Colliery was sunk in 1895.
The mineral railway was altered to approach the colliery from the north, a line which extended from the lines near Cowdenbeath Colliery Pit No 7. The box closed in 1901.
The box was replaced in 1901 with another slightly further north and also on the east side. A new triangular junction was built to the north, south of Cowdenbeath station (initially built for Kirkford Colliery). From this junction the line ran west to then north then east to join the existing system at Cowdenbeath Colliery Pit No 7.
The box closed in 1952.
