This goods yard was on the Shotts Branch (Monkland Railways) where it met the Shotts Branch Railway (Edinburgh and Glasgow Railway) and lines of the Shotts Iron Co, for which there was a series of exchange sidings Shotts Loops. The small goods yard was approached from the west, the line from Westcraigs to the north. It did not open with the line from Westcraigs, it was a later addition, after 1900ish, built beside the exchange sidings for the Shotts Iron Works.
A nearby bridge over the Caledonian was built to carry a double track, but a southbound line was never laid. The bridge was later reduced to a single track bridge.
