20/02/1852	Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway Penshaw to Sunderland opened for freight.
08/02/1853	Londonderry Railway Start of work on line from Seaham [1st] to Hendon Dock, Sunderland. To be built as Seaham Harbour at capacity.
/ /1855	Durham and Sunderland Railway Hartlepool Dock and Railway Following a North Eastern Railway study of Sunderland to Hartlepool services a connection at Haswell, alterations at Seaton and Murton and a new staton for Sunderland are recommended.
/ /1879	Durham and Sunderland Railway Hendon station closed on opening of new Sunderland station.
/ /1879	Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway Sunderland Fawcett Street station closed on opening of new Sunderland station.
/ /1879	Sunderland Station (North Eastern Railway) New line from Ryhope Grange Junction to new Sunderland central station and from Fawcett Street opened. Hendon and Fawcett Street stations closed. Line extended north to cross the River Wear to connect at Monkwearmouth. The new station had two island platforms with arched overall roof (which was destroyed in World War II).
05/01/1953	Durham and Sunderland Railway Sunderland to Pittington service withdrawn.
05/05/1964	Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway Penshaw to Sunderland line closed to passengers.
31/03/2002	Newcastle and Darlington Junction Railway Sunderland to South Hylton re-opened.
