Originally Kersland Junction (the mileage of the Swinlees Branch was measured from Kersland Junction). It then became Carsehead and Swinlees Branch Junction (as shown on the Railway Clearing House map).
This was the start of the 1876 Swinlees Branch (Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway) which ran to various ironstone pits to the north west of Dalry and served the same area as the Pitcon Railway which approached from Glengarnock Iron Works. A Swinlees Junction signal box opened with the junction. The box was on the west side of the junction. The branch could be entered from the south directly or from the north via a headshunt at the junction.
The line between Brownhill Junction and Dalry Junction was quadrupled in 1905, leading to a new box opening here in the 'V' of the junction on the west side. The Kersland Brick Works was on the east side of the junction, served by sidings from the south.
The signal box closed in 1947, replaced with a ground frame under control of Dalry No 2 Signal Box.
In 1957 a new chemical works (Dalry Chemical Works) was opened to the south and a siding laid in to it which remains open.
The Kilbarchan loop from Brownhill Junction closed in 1972, the Kilmarnock branch in 1973, but the quadruple line remains, now the Dalry Loops.
