Temple Iron Works (1890-1970)

Description

This works was opened in the 1890s by William Baird. It manufactured iron and steel girders and bridges, including the distinctive lattice footbridges for the Highland Railway.

The offices were on Temple Place, Crow Road, with the factory behind, to east, and a level area serviced with short tramways bordering a siding with a loading bank. This was on the west side of line where the Cowdenhill Branch [North British Railway] where it left the Glasgow City and District Railway north of Strathcona Drive.

The site is now housing.
