Proposals to reconnect a Scottish port with freight ferry services to Europe could hinge on making rail freight part of the mix. That's the message from stakeholders seeking to establish a direct link between Rosyth on the east coast of Scotland and Zeebrugge on the west coast of Belgium.

Last week, as the sun went down on Britain's membership of the European Union, a symbolic cutting of the ties took place, witnessed by only 26 people. On Tuesday evening, the last ferry to link Flanders and England set sail from Zeebrugge to Hull, the final voyage of a 46-year-long history.
