Work is about to begin on a new staff accommodation block at Ayr station in the first phase of a programme that will unlock significant improvements for passengers and the operation of the station. The installation of a new modular block to the east of the station; opposite platform four, will provide staff with a fully functioning base, independent of the original station building. It will serve as a booking-on point for drivers and host general welfare facilities for all station-based staff. First phase work alone represents an investment of circa £1.3m to improve Ayr station. The location of the new block means that work can be progressed without the need to close the line at any point. It will also enable the removal of portacabins to free up parking spaces.

Rail services through Ayr are expected to return to normal, four months after a crumbling former hotel led to safety concerns.
An exclusion zone was extended around Ayr station in August after the building was found to be unsafe. Train operator ScotRail said a full service would resume on Thursday, after the unsafe structure was contained. (Permalink) Ayr Station Hotel Stranraer |
Train services between Ayr and Stranraer will be restored from today.

Safety teams will work 24 hours a day to try and get the hub moving again. Work, which begins this Saturday, is expected to last until mid-October. Services to Glasgow Central are currently restricted in size with all six carriage trains halting at Prestwick Town. All trains south of Ayr are cancelled. Contractors are now set to move in with the aim of reinstating those lost services. (Permalink) Ayr Station Hotel |
