An amber weather warning in eastern Scotland has been extended with flooding leading to school closures and disruption on roads and railways.

Rail services have been hit by the weather this morning. The East Coast Line is flooded at Dalgety Bay. The Dundee-Arbroath service is suspended along with services between Aberdeen and Inverurie. ScotRail has speed restrictions on many routes.

Transport Minister, Graeme Dey visited the team delivering the Aberdeen to Central Belt Enhancement Project and heard first-hand about the next phase of works which is due to commence next month.
Speaking from the event at LNERS Clayhills depot adjacent to Aberdeen Station, Matthew Spence, director of route business development and sponsorship for Scotland's Railway, said: 'Construction is expected to take place between 2022 and 2026 and it's important to point out this scheme will have benefits for the wider North East region with proposals for Dundee, Arbroath, Montrose and Aberdeen stations including lengthened platforms, enhanced capability and enabling additional and longer services.' The next phase of railway upgrades that could slash journey times between Aberdeen and the central belt by more than 20 minutes is due to start next month.

ScotRail has announced that flooding due to heavy rain has meant that the line between Laurencekirk and Montrose is closed, affecting Glasgow, Edinburgh and Montrose to Aberdeen services.

Work on a £250,000 upgrade to Montrose station has begun. Contractors will replace the toilets in the main building and provide customers with a new, modern shelter on platform two. The new toilets will include baby changing facilities and seating in the platform two shelter, which will be a glass construction with stainless steel panels and a concrete floor. Seating in the shelter has been increased from six seats to nine.

A new shuttle service between Montrose and Edinburgh will be introduced from Monday, 14 September to allow customers travelling in the north east to complete their journey by rail.
The service will run Monday to Saturday between Montrose and Edinburgh, and between Montrose and Dundee on Sundays. It follows the introduction of a rail shuttle service between Aberdeen and Stonehaven last week. Existing replacement bus services between Dundee and Aberdeen remain in place for customers travelling beyond Montrose.
