Larchwood Railway Cuttings Cemetery: Taken showing Larchwood Railway Cuttings Cemetery on the outskirts of Ypres with 'Hill 60' in the background. Taken 13/5/2015 from the side of a small crossing.
Scorton [Lancashire] [1st]: 86613 and 86622, two of the 16 strong Freightliner Class 86 fleet, take the evening Coatbridge to Crewe train south at Scorton on 13th May 2015. The former E3148 and E3174 are approaching the footbridge at Broad Fall Farm.
Scorton [Lancashire] [1st]): Two DRS Class 57s take the evening flask train south along the WCML in May 2015. 57012 and 57002 have just passed Scorton and are approaching the footbridge at Broad Fall Farm.
Swanage: Looking north from Northbrook Road overbridge, Swanage, on 13 May with Bulleid BB Class 34070 Manston stabled by the coaling stage. Diesel Shunter D3591 is on the left of the running line in the middle distance, whilst an Hymek and another diesel loco can be seen in the background.
Darlington [Bank Top]: Darlington (Bank Top), looking back south from the ex-13.00 Virgin Trains service from King's Cross to Edinburgh Waverley, on 13th May 2016.
National Railway Museum [York]: 47798 'Prince William', standing outside the National Railway Museum at York, buffered up to of all things a Eurostar power car. Seen from a passing Virgin Trains service from King's Cross to Edinburgh Waverley, just re-stared after its York station stop, on 13th May 2016.
Warwick: 68009 leads Chiltern Mainline service 1K45 from Marylebone to Kidderminster through Warwick on 13 May 2016. DVT 82309 brought up the rear. See image [[41185]] for the other end, in both senses.
Warwick: The back entrance to Warwick station - clearly proof against Dalek invasions. Seen here on 13 May 2016. [Ref query 47706]
Gretna Green: Going here and going there at Gretna Green on 13th May 2016.
Warwick: That's another load off my mind. The guard of a train heading for Marylebone checks for straggling passengers before departure. The more luxurious train on the other platform - notice the alternative livery - is heading for Birmingham.
Warwick: What now guv'n'r - back to the factory? Imagined conversation between secondman Carter and driver Regan on train 408R from Southampton Eastern Docks to Castle Bromwich Jaguar terminal with empty car carriers (see also image [[41974]]).
Warwick: The latest Freightliner livery doesn't seem to suit 66's as well as 70's - which, let's face it, need all the cosmetic assistance they can get. see image [[55154]] The train seen here passing through Warwick on 13 May 2016 is 443R, from Leeds FLT to Southampton FLT.
Westbury: Colas Rail 70.807 and a classmate bask in the sun at Westbury. The livery may be bright, but it doesn't actually make up for the (lack of) styling.
Bishops Lydeard: Integrated transport is nothing new - witness this advertisement for a 1904 GWR bus service linking two Western branch termini, on show at the West Somerset Railway museum at Bishops Lydeard.
Minehead: I'm sure those ISO containers are younger than Drewry 04 shunter D2271. But it's a strange and interesting contrast, seen at Minehead in May 2017.
Inveresk: 60103 Flying Scotsman nears Inveresk with The Cathedrals Express from Kings Cross to Edinburgh on 13 May.
Minehead: I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house down. No. 53809 seems to be perspiring from all of its joints after arriving at Minehead on 13th May 2017.
Minehead: Driver to photographer: Did you get my good side? D1010 Western Campaigner is ready at Minehead to return railtour passengers along the WSR to pick up their HST for Paddington.
Bishops Lydeard: The goods shed at the South end of the WSR is now a fine museum.
Wemyss Bay: This bronze sculpture unveiled today of a boy by Angela Hunter was commissioned by the Friends of Wemyss Bay Station to mark the 150th anniversary of the first train in 2015, recent completion of a major restoration by Network Rail and this year's 50th anniversary of electric trains coming to Inverclyde.
Reading: 67024 hauls VSOE stock through Reading on a railtour on 13 May 2017. Ironically, I was catching another railtour on the same day, to Minehead.
Birmingham New Street: Two EMU's preparing to go back to where they came from, in the stygian depths of New Street station on 13th May 2017.
Reading: This down HST is literally and figuratively in the shadow of electrification at Reading. The Voyager in the background is a more modern express DMU.
Minehead: Minehead station is fine and traditional, but the recently built Turntable Café (right) is an acquired taste. The silver 1997 Vauxhall Corsa is arguably as well preserved as the station.
Taunton: The former goods yard at Taunton has been significantly redeveloped lately. I remember a large shed latterly used for storing road vehicle parts and a much clearer view of this water tower emblazoned with the text: British Railways Taunton Freight Concentration Depot. see image [[40790]]
Peterborough (Nene Valley): Battle of Britain 4-6-2 34081 92 Squadron seen at Peterborough NVR Station on the 13th May 2018.
Corfe Castle: Exhibits, with a predominantly Southern theme, in the small museum at Corfe Castle on the Swanage Railway.
Dalgety Bay: 170411, on the 16.43 from Edinburgh to Glenrothes with Thornton, is passed by 'Royal' locos 67006 and 67005 returning SRPS stock from Dundee to Bo'ness on 13th May 2018. These coaches had formed an excursion to the Lake District the previous day.
Plates, signs, notices etc: The nameplate of BB 4-6-2 34081 '92 Squadron', and the splendid squadron crest, as seen on the locomotive at the Nene Valley Railway on 13th May 2018.
Wansford: Peak Class 46 D182 poking its nose out of Wansford shed on 13th May 2018.
Gorebridge: After crossing the Gore Glen bridge ScotRail 170409 drops down to pass below Station Road and enter Gorebridge station on 13 May 2018. The train is the 0911 (Sunday) Edinburgh Waverley - Tweedbank.
Wansford: A view across the shed yard at Wansford in May 2018 with 60163 Tornado taking centre stage but under repair due to a middle cylinder fault following its failure on the ECML.
Wansford: 'Helga,' a Scandinavian Railcar, stabled in the Wansford Station bay platform on 13th May 2018.
Wansford: A view across the Wansford station sidings in May 2018, with GWR 0-6-2T 5619 on the turntable and a Swedish 4-6-0 standing as an exhibit. I think this is a sister engine to the Swedish loco that the SRPS had at Bo'ness.
Lymington Town: The double sausage totem sign at Lymington Town.
Gaur Viaduct: B1 No. 61306 'Mayflower,' and 37685 'Loch Arkaig,' cross the Gaur Viaduct at Rannoch with the Steam Dreams - 'Highlands and Islands Explorer' travelling from Inverness to Fort William. 13th May 2019.
Whitemoss Level Crossing: B1 61306 'Mayflower' running to time on the climb to Auchterarder with the 'Highlands & Islands' tour, from Inverness to Fort William, on 13th May 2019.
Milton Keynes Central: Shome mishtake shurely? There were a lot of stops in the West Midlands on this service to Edinburgh but it did not actually terminate in Birmingham. It was a long and somewhat viewless journey see image [[69946]]-OK, I did get a better view from another seat after a while....
Friarton Junction: B1 4-6-0 61306 Mayflower passes the site of Perth South shed, on the left, with a 'Steam Dreams' charter from Inverness to Fort William on 13 May 2019.
Perth New Yard: B1 4-6-0 61306 Mayflower passes the former Perth New Yard, with a 'Steam Dreams' charter from Inverness to Fort William, on 13th May 2019.
Slochd Viaduct: B1 No.61306 Mayflower, leads 'The Highlands & Islands Explorer' over Slochd Viaduct on the long journey from Inverness to Fort William. Class 37 No. 37685 'Loch Arkaig' assisting at rear.
Kingussie: B1 No.61306 'Mayflower' hurries 'The Highlands & Islands Explorer' past Balavil, north of Kingussie on 13th May 2019. 37685 'Loch Arkaig' on the rear. The Caingorms in the background still have traces of snow on them.
Perth New Yard: 37685 'Loch Arkaig' brings up the rear of the 'Steam Dreams' leg from Inverness to Fort William, passing the former entrance to Perth New Yard on 13th May 2019. The trailing crossover is presently out of service.
Milton Keynes Central: I hope that the new West Coast operator First Trenitalia will be able to refurbish out this kind of seat. This is what I was faced with on my first journey on a Pendolino from Milton Keynes Central to Edinburgh. I specifically asked Virgin Trains for a window seat; should have realised I was to be travelling on the thirteenth...
Templehall Level Crossing: DRS 66433 about to pass Templehall level crossing, between Inchture and Longforgan, with the Grangemouth - Aberdeen Craiginches intermodal on 13th May 2019.
Druimuachdar Summit: The 'Highlands and Islands Explorer' is dwarfed by the scenery as it passes over Druimauchdar Summit, hauled by B1 No. 61306 'Mayflower,' on 13th May 2019. 37685 'Loch Arkaig' is providing assistance at the rear.
Dalwhinnie: B1 No. 61306 'Mayflower,' and 37685 'Loch Arkaig', top and tail the Steam Dreams Railtour across the moor at Dalwhinnie on 13th May 2019.
Edinburgh Waverley: The main and widest entrance to Waverley is the one on Princes Street, but this has been closed during lockdown. This forces the few passengers to use the Waverley Bridge ramps where, because the footways are fenced from the (hardly used) drives it is impossible to properly distance when passing someone. I am sure they know what they are doing. Photographed incidental to my daily exercise permitted under emergency coronavirus legislation.
Drumshoreland: There was never much to Drumshoreland itself and unlike its neighbour Uphall no real community built up around the isolated station. The buildings on the eastbound platform are however substantially still there. It seems to have had a prominent and generously-sized cludgie.
Lostock Hall: The 0946 Preston to Leeds service, with 195017, passes Lostock Hall on 13 May 2021. The area to the right is the former goods yard which has been cleared of vegetation in the past year. On the far side of this area is the line from Farington Junction, joining with the East Lancashire line at Lostock Hall Junction in the distance.
West Bryans Siding: Amongst improvements made by the Lothian Coal Company during development of the Lady Victoria cmplex was the construction of extensive rail facilities alongside the main line. This enabled closure of the sidings previously used by the Newbattle Collieries, which were located in a cramped yard at the south end of Newbattle Viaduct. The yard was abandoned prior to World War 1, with all traffic moving to the new site. This is the old yard more than a century later on a damp May morning in 2021. Running behind the fence on the left is the Borders Railway (see [[71036]]), with the B6482 Dalhousie Road passing to the right. Just beyond the point where the fences meet is the south end of Newbattle Viaduct.
Lostock Hall: 70810 passes the site of the first Lostock Hall station (the present station is behind the camera), with the site of the famous locomotive shed immediately to the left. The loco is working the 6E32 empty bitumen tanks from Preston Docks to Lindsey Oil Refinery on 13 May 2021.
Livingston North: An Edinburgh service pulls into Livingston North on 13 May 2021. Six carriages are more usual and with the reduced timetable there surely can't be a shortage of stock.
