Hindley

The very long walkway at Deep Pit footbridge, viewed from the top of the south side ramp in January 2024. On the north side of the single span is a an approach path made of stone setts on a small embankment. In steam days, with nine tracks underneath, this must have been a tremendous vantage point to watch passing trains. Today it is almost entirely the various classes of Northern multiple units on the two surviving tracks, albeit there are eight trains an hour.
