Lancaster Green Ayre closed to passengers on 3rd January 1966 and by 1970 when this shot was taken it was in the throes of at least partial demolition. To the right is Greyhound Bridge, which was being converted for road traffic. The remaining single line was worked as a long siding from Lancaster Castle station for coal deliveries to Lancaster Power Station, until it ceased generating in 1976. The new ballast shows where the line was raised to cross the bridge access road on a level crossing. See image 56954 of the power station before closure.
