Rose Bridge Junction: Looking south on the Whelley Loop at the site of Rose Bridge Junction, where there was a freight chord to Kirkless Hall Junction on the Springs Branch. This closed in 1938 but was reopened in 1958 to allow the Springs Branch to close between Kirkless and Central Wagon Works. The curve closed again in 1965. On a walk from Whelley to Hindley South I passed former junctions at Round House, Rose Bridge, De Trafford and Amberswood East but, even with a 25 inch map extract, could not find any significant junction infrastructure, signal box bases etc.

Thameslink services were severely delayed on this afternoon following an earlier incident with trespassers on the line at Blackfriars.

Whelley: A cyclist pedals through the site of Whelley station, on the Whelley Loop greenway, on 10th January 2024. The station building was sited in the walled patch of land on the left side of the track, and remained in use as a house for about a hundred years after it closed. As it was only open to passengers for two months in 1872, the stairs on the right will not have seen much use until the line closed and became accessible to the public. What would a ticket from Whelley be worth at auction today?
