Dagenham East: LU S7 stock in the bay platform at Dagenham East, waiting to return west with a District Line service, seen from a C2C service from Fenchurch Street to Shoeburyness via Basildon, passing at 11.05 on 18th June 2024. In the foreground is the disused end of the island platform that is still used by westbound District Line trains from Upminster (these stop further back east along the platform) while the entire eastbound C2C platform has not been used since the ex-LT&SR was electrified in 1962.
Plymouth: 67009 departing Plymouth with 1M65, the 1915 Plymouth to Willesden mail service on 1st July 2003. Plymouth, like many locations, was once busy with Royal Mail services but there have been no mail trains to the West Counry for many a year now.
Diggle: In its early days Diggle was a small stopping point but when Micklehurst Loop line was built, followed by the Standedge route quadrupling, it was rebuilt into a four platform junction station, albeit in a relatively remote location. The station closed in 1968 and was demolished although the hump of the central island platform can still be seen, as in this June 2024 view from near the Standedge Tunnel portal. The complex history of this station is well covered and illustrated on the excellent Disused Stations website.
Foot of the Walk [Tram]: Edinburgh Trams no. 265 from Airport to Newhaven passing the former Leith Central station, closed in 1952, on the approach to the stop at Foot of the Walk, at 20.51 on Monday, 3rd June 2024.
Fauldhouse Viaduct: A 156 crosses Fauldhouse Viaduct with a working from Glasgow Central to Edinburgh on an unrecorded date in 2001.
Bishton Flyover: 60083 has the Margam to Corby coils at Bishton, not far from Severn Tunnel Junction, on 20th October 2005. A once nice quiet spot to watch the trains, but pictures now ruined by the overhead wires and raised bridge. No DB Class 60s in traffic now either.
Boat of Garten: 46512 arrives at Boat with a train to Aviemore. 46464 waits with a 'special' on it's first day back in public service, Saturday 22 June 2024.
Diggle: TPE802204, on a Newcastle Liverpool service, passes through the site of Diggle station on 19th June 2024. Alongside is the western entrance to the Standedge Canal Tunnel. This was extended in 1893 when the double track rail tunnel was being built as the new four track Diggle station was partly built over the canal.
