Standedge Tunnel: Although Standedge Canal Tunnel was completed in 1811 (after 17 years construction), this date stone at the western portal reads 1893. When the additional double track tunnel was bored the canal tunnel had to be extended by 242 yards to a total of 5675 yards. Construction of the rail tunnels was aided by spoil being removed by canal via connecting adits. The last boat passed through in 1944 but it was restored and reopened in 2001. Standedge trains pass close by here and the rails can just be seen above the wall to the right of the tunnel mouth.

Earl's Court [Metro]: The only preserved examples (another is on the opposite island platform) of the famous London Underground arrow indicator boards are now at Earl's Court, seen here on the westbound island platform, at 15.26 on Saturday, 6th July 2024. At one time, these could be seen at all sub-surface District Line stations shared with the Circle Line with the exception of Earl's Court, which here is exclusively the District Line, although until 1940 LMSR electric trains from Willesden Junction could also be seen here. Note the apostrophe in Earl's, unlike the nearby Barons Court station.

Fillan Viaduct: Shortly after leaving Crianlarich, the 20.00 Kings Cross - Fort William crosses the Fillan Viaduct, on an unrecorded date in the summer of 1975. Equally unrecorded was the identity of the locomotive but it looks to be 27040.
