Upton: 230010 pulls away from Upton, the last stop before Bidston on the Borderlands Line from Wrexham, on 16th October 2024. Upton and Heswall stations are in Merseyside, Neston is in Cheshire and the other eleven stations are in Wales.
Milford Junction [Yorkshire]: 66167 has a Gascoigne Wood to Drax coal train at Milford Junction in February 2003. This was once a very busy location where many enthusiasts would watch and photo the trains. Some might call the location Monks Fryston after the nearby village. When coal was king this was probably the busiest location in the country to see coal trains. The bridge has since been rebuilt and is very high, and with no coal trains passing through here it is completely dead from how it used to be. The vegetation growth has also spoilt the view.
Hairmyres: Electrification masts are being erected and a new station is being constructed at Hairmyres. Time is running out for the 156 units on the East Kilbride branch as 156510 and 156505 head back to Glasgow Central on 11 November 2024. Sited 600m from the current single platform Hairmyres the existing loop will be extended westwards to serve the new two platform station. Rail for the new line is already sitting in the four-foot pending temporary closure of the line in early 2025 for the major parts of the project to take place.
Knightsbridge: LU 1973 stock, the oldest but one of those on the network, with a Piccadilly Line short working to Rayners Lane, departing from Knightsbridge at 13.32 on Monday, 4th November 2024. New trains are now being built to replace these 51 years old trains in 2025 but the Bakerloo Line, alas, looks set to roll unmerrily along with its moth-eaten 1972 stock trains for some time yet.
Heriot: Christmas Day 1968, looking south at Heriot, with just a few days to go before closure of the Waverley Route to passengers as from 6th January 1969, although the last train to call here was on Saturday the 4th. The line through the station remained open until 28th April 1969 for goods traffic from Millerhill to Hawick.
Kirkby Stephen East: 'Stanton No.50', a Stainmore Railway diesel shunter 2442/1957, in their new engine shed at Kirkby Stephen East in November 2024.
Liverpool Exchange: Looking towards the former main entrance to Liverpool Exchange, which was an archway through the old Station Hotel, in November 2024. The hotel was located on Tithebarn Street, and the station was behind it but closed in 1977, being replaced by Moorfields. The hotel frontage was incorporated into the Mercury Court office complex in the mid 1980s
Strowan Tunnel: Looking east to the Strowan Tunnel. The embankment of the railway cut through an older embankment, a flood defence for the River Earn (which is on the right). There are several pools here, remains of various meanders of the river.
Kirkcaldy: Azuma 800105 approaches Kirkcaldy, with the 09.52 from Aberdeen to Kings Cross, on 2nd November 2024.
