Moorswater Viaduct: D1054 'Western Governor' working the 0700 Bradford to Penzance service opens up after crossing Moorswater Viaduct, Liskeard, in September 1973. The Western came on at Plymouth. There was always a loco change in those days on this train. A Holbeck Peak was the normal power from Leeds to Plymouth. The loco had just had a repaint at Plymouth Laira depot and would remain in service until November 1976. This footbridge was a great place to watch the trains. It was busy on summer Saturdays with plenty of Westerns in 1973.
Kirkless Iron Works: Just below Lock 68, on the long Wigan Flight of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, is this stone abutment which carried the half mile Round House branch from the Whelley Loop into Kirkless Iron Works. The last goods train rumbled across in 1930 but the stonework survives on both sides of the canal - see image [[88836]].
